What you need to know

If you haven't already done so, set up SU MCP Gateway first and then come back here to connect Tableau.

  • Screenshots are from ChatGPT, but the prompts, sign-in pages, and confirmation screens look the same in Claude.
  • Connection links expire after 10 minutes. If yours expires, ask the assistant to connect again for a new link.

Create a personal access token in Tableau

Tableau doesn't use a normal sign-in for this connection. You create a token in Tableau first, then paste it into the connection form.

  1. Sign in to Tableau in your browser and open My Account Settings.
  2. Under Personal Access Tokens, give the token a name (for example, su-mcp-gateway) and click Create.
  3. Copy the token secret right away. Tableau shows it only once.

How to connect Tableau

  1. Ask ChatGPT to connect Tableau using the prompt below, then click the link ChatGPT sends you.

Using SU MCP Gateway, connect to my Tableau.
  2. Enter your Tableau Server URL, the address you normally use to open Tableau in your browser. For Tableau Cloud, use your site's pod address (for example, https://10ay.online.tableau.com), not the generic https://online.tableau.com.
  3. Enter the token name and the token secret, then click Connect Account.
  4. Return to ChatGPT and reply "done".

Try these prompts

If you're not sure where to start, try one of these:

  • List the Tableau workbooks I have access to.
  • Summarize what the "Enrollment Overview" dashboard shows.

Get help

If you need assistance, submit a help request for your tool:

Be sure to include:

  • The app you tried to connect (Tableau)
  • What you typed and how the assistant responded
  • A screenshot of any error (don't include your token secret)

For fixes to common problems, see the troubleshooting guide.
