Connect Airtable
On this page:
This guide explains how to use SU MCP Gateway to connect ChatGPT or Claude to Airtable.
Capabilities, sign-in, and setup
| Topic | Details |
|---|---|
| What you can do | List the bases you can access, create new bases and tables, add records, and read data. |
| Sign-in method | Airtable sign-in (often already authorized). Sharing a base requires a one-time sign-in to Airtable in the browser. |
| Connect prompt | Using SU MCP Gateway, connect to my Airtable. |
What you need to know
If you haven't already done so, set up SU MCP Gateway first and then come back here to connect Airtable.
- Screenshots are from ChatGPT, but the prompts, sign-in pages, and confirmation screens look the same in Claude.
- Connection links expire after 10 minutes. If yours expires, ask the assistant to connect again for a new link.
How to connect Airtable
Ask ChatGPT to connect Airtable. If you've authorized it before, ChatGPT connects right away and confirms which bases it can see.

Try these prompts
If you're not sure where to start, try one of these:
- List all Airtable bases I can access using SU MCP Gateway.
- Create a new base "SU MCP Gateway Airtable", add a table called "Table 1", and then add my name and email as a record.
- Share it with colleague@stanford.edu.

Sharing a base
SU MCP Gateway can't share an Airtable base directly, so ChatGPT opens Airtable in its built-in browser and asks you to sign in. Here's what to do:
- When the Airtable sign-in page opens, click Continue with Google and choose your Stanford account.
- Once you're signed in, reply Signed in in ChatGPT.
- ChatGPT finishes sharing the base and confirms the access level it gave (for example, read-only).
