What you need to know

If you haven't already done so, set up SU MCP Gateway first and then come back here to connect Jira.

  • Screenshots are from ChatGPT, but the prompts, sign-in pages, and confirmation screens look the same in Claude.
  • Connection links expire after 10 minutes. If yours expires, ask the assistant to connect again for a new link.

How to connect Jira

  1. Open a new chat in ChatGPT and type the prompt below.

Using SU MCP Gateway, connect to my Jira.
  2. ChatGPT replies with a blue connection link. Click it.

  3. On the Atlassian page, enter your @stanford.edu email and click Continue, then sign in.

  4. Atlassian shows a page saying Composio is requesting access to your Atlassian account. Choose your Stanford site and click Accept.

Heads up! If Atlassian shows "Access to this domain is restricted", your Atlassian site administrator hasn't yet allowed SU MCP Gateway for your site. You won't be able to finish connecting until that's approved. Contact your Jira site admin, or submit a request (see Get help).
  5. When you see Successfully connected, close that window, return to ChatGPT, and reply done. ChatGPT confirms the connection, and you're ready to go.

Try these prompts

Once you're connected, try one of these:

  • List my open Jira issues in the current sprint.
  • Create a Jira task in project ABC titled "Update user guide" and assign it to me.

Get help

If you need assistance, submit a help request for your tool:

Be sure to include:

  • The app you tried to connect (Jira)
  • What you typed and how the assistant responded
  • A screenshot of any error

For fixes to common problems, see the troubleshooting guide.
