SU MCP Gateway Tips and Troubleshooting

Tips to fix common issues

Many common issues with SU MCP Gateway have a quick fix. If you're seeing the issues shown in the table below, follow the steps to get back on track.

ProblemWhat to do
The link expiredConnection links last 10 minutes. Ask the assistant to connect the app again and it will send a new link.
Credentials have expiredSome apps (for example, Gmail) need to be reconnected from time to time. Click the Reconnect link the assistant gives you and sign in again.
I'm asked to sign in to a websiteA few actions, such as sharing in Airtable or Figma, aren't available through the gateway, so the assistant opens the app in its browser. Sign in with your Stanford account and reply Signed in.
I'm asked to approve somethingBefore changing something (sending a message, sharing a file, inviting someone), the assistant may pause and ask you to confirm. Read the request and reply with your choice.
Wrong account connectedAsk the assistant to disconnect the app, then connect it again and pick the right account on the sign-in page.
A file or project can't be foundGive the exact name or paste the link. For Figma, paste the team URL rather than a file link.
Nothing happensCheck that SU MCP Gateway is enabled in the chat (under Sources in ChatGPT, or in the + menu in Claude) and that other connectors are disconnected. Then start a fresh chat and try again.

Tips to work safely

  • The assistant acts as you. Anything it sends, shares or changes will show up under your name, so review requests before confirming.
  • Be thoughtful about sensitive data. If you only need a summary, say so (for example "without revealing any specific information"), as in the examples in this guide.
  • Never paste API keys, tokens or passwords into the chat. Only enter them on the connection form.
  • Keep SU MCP Gateway as your only connector so the assistant always uses the Stanford-managed path.
