Stanford MCP Gateway (Composio)

Safely connect your everyday apps to Claude and ChatGPT through one Stanford-managed connector

The Stanford MCP Gateway (Composio) securely connects university-approved AI tools to the apps and systems you use every day.

Look for the connector named SU MCP Gateway. It’s already added to your university account, so there’s nothing to install. To start using it, enable the connector and sign in to each app you want to connect, like Google Drive, Slack, and GitHub.

The gateway also offers a governed way to make select Stanford systems, data sources, and business capabilities available to university-approved AI applications through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Features

For everyone

  • One connector, many apps: Enable SU MCP Gateway, then sign in to each app you want to use, such as Slack, Google Drive, or Jira.
  • Plain-language requests: Ask the assistant to find information or perform supported tasks in your connected apps.
  • Secure sign-in: Sign in on each app's own login page. Claude and ChatGPT never see your password.
  • You stay in control: The assistant can only access what your account can, and it only shares when you ask.

For service owners and technical teams

  • Managed MCP hosting: Runs approved MCP servers and integrations in a Stanford-managed environment.
  • System integration enablement: Connects approved Stanford services or APIs to authorized AI services.
  • Authentication and permissions: Supports credential handling and access controls appropriate to each integration.
  • Operational oversight: Provides service-specific limits, monitoring, lifecycle management, and other controls based on each integration's risk.
  • MCP-compatible access: Makes approved capabilities available to supported AI systems and MCP-compatible clients, as appropriate for the use case.

Designed for

  • Faculty, students, postdocs, and staff who use Stanford-provided AI tools.
  • Service owners, application teams, technical teams, and business units that want to make a system integration or business capability available to an approved AI application.

Data security

University IT works with service owners, data owners, and information security reviewers to evaluate, build, configure, and enable integrations when there is an approved Stanford use case.

Each proposed integration is evaluated based on:

  • The Stanford data involved
  • The destination AI system
  • The actions the integration can perform
  • The technical and operational controls available

Approval is integration-specific; availability of the gateway does not by itself authorize use of any system or data with an AI application.

New integrations require review for an approved Stanford use case. A request form and details about the review process are coming soon.
