Automatic Enrollment for into Microsoft Intune for Windows Devices
This service is in a pilot. This page is intended for Entra ID/Intune pilot participants only.
What’s next: A phased rollout is tentatively scheduled for late 2026/early 2027. More details will be announced soon through University IT news.
The university offers an automated Intune enrollment process for eligible Stanford-owned Windows devices. If your device can use this method, you'll receive a notification with your scheduled enrollment date.
Note: This enrollment method applies only to Stanford-owned devices that have been identified as eligible for automatic enrollment.
Before you begin
Prior to your scheduled enrollment date, ensure you have:
- Set up your new Microsoft login using the Authenticator app on your mobile phone. Follow the instructions for iOS or Android.
- Your SUNet ID credentials readily available.
- Network access via either the
- Stanford network (on campus), or
- Cisco Secure Client VPN for Windows
What to expect
On or after your scheduled enrollment date,
- Connect your device to the Stanford network by choosing one of the following options:
- On campus: Connect directly to the Stanford network directly
- Off campus: Connect using Cisco Secure Client VPN for Windows to su-vpn.stanford.edu
- Remain connected to the Stanford network or VPN for at least one hour. You must stay connected so your device can receive the necessary enrollment configuration.
- Once you have stayed connected for at least one hour, restart your computer to complete the enrollment process.
- On your next login, you may be prompted to set up Windows Hello. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this setup.
Important: If you were prompted to set up Windows Hello during this step and you are not connected to a campus network, you may encounter a "Your credentials could not be verified" error on your next sign-in. Please review the How to Resolve "Your Credentials Could Not Be Verified" Error guide so you are prepared to resolve this if this error if it occurs.
