How to Choose Your New Microsoft Login
This information is for the School of Medicine.
Your new Microsoft login requires an authentication method — a way to verify your identity before you can access your account.
All three options below are approved for university use and provide strong security. The best choice depends on whether you prefer using your phone, an Apple device with Touch ID or Face ID, or a physical security key.
| Method | Microsoft Authenticator App | Apple Passkey | YubiKey Security Key |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suitable for | Most people, especially if you're comfortable with Duo and use your smartphone regularly | iPhone, iPad, or Mac users who want the simplest experience | Those who already own a YubiKey and are comfortable using it or don’t have a compatible smartphone |
| What you need | A smartphone (iOS or Android) | An Apple device with Touch ID or Face ID | A YubiKey ($25-$50) |
| How it works | Approve login requests by entering a two-digit code on your phone | Use biometrics (Touch ID or Face ID) to sign in | Insert the physical key into your device and tap it when prompted |
