An 8% infrastructure surcharge is added for Dark Fiber Circuits ordered by commercial carriers. Information on the infrastructure surcharge is available through the Office of Research Administration. See also Administrative Guide Memo 37.3.
A fiber circuit is one fiber pair (two fibers) from an originating end-point patch-panel/interface to a terminating end-point patch-panel/interface.
An on-campus circuit is a Point-to-Point fiber circuit on the historic campus or the Redwood City Campus. These circuits are used to bring outside carrier services from our Minimum Point Of Entry (MPOE) to a desired location. They can also be utilized to tie locations together on either campus (but not campus to campus).
An off-campus circuit is a fiber circuit that connects to the City of Palo Alto Dark Fiber ring. Please note that there are additional charges from the City of Palo Alto to use their dark fiber. There are two entry points into campus to provide for diverse pathing if requested.
A North-campus circuit is a fiber circuit between the historic and the Redwood City campuses. There are a limited number of these circuits.
A copper circuit is for extending carrier services from our MPOE to a client’s end point on the historic campus.
