Paying particular attention to typography makes documents and web pages more accessible. While most recommendations below do not directly map to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) criteria, they are best practices for creating more accessible content beyond minimum standards.
There may be circumstances when some recommendations should be ignored, such as when specific formatting is required (e.g., to meet MLA or APA style guides).
Ultimately, type and legibility are about reader preferences. Everyone reads most effortlessly in their most comfortable format, and it is our duty to provide the most flexible and universal format for users.
