Workgroup integration cannot be used to create Office365 Groups when workgroup name is longer than 54 characters. Microsoft Office365 Groups are assigned email addresses that comply with internet standard limitation of 64 characters or less. When a workgroup is linked to Office365 group, a default name is assigned like <wgms-wgstem-wgname>.
If you wish to link a workgroup with name longer than 54 characters:
- Option1
- Create a new workgroup with a short(er) name
- Add desired members and admins in the short name workgroup
- Link the short name workgroup to Office365
- Option2:
- Create a new workgroup with a short(er) name
- Nest the long name workgroup under the short name workgroup
- Link the short name workgroup to Office365
