How to Migrate an Android Device from Workspace ONE to Intune
These instructions are to migrate a device already enrolled in Workspace ONE to Intune. If you are unsure if your device is enrolled in Workspace ONE, follow these steps to verify. If you have a new device or previously unmanaged device, follow these steps to enroll in Intune.
Before migrating your device to Intune, you must first unenroll your device from Workspace ONE. This will remove any Stanford-managed applications and associated data from your device including Outlook, Gmail, Duo, and Stanford Mobile.
Before you begin
- As you go through this process, which should take less than 30 minutes, ensure your phone has at least 50% battery.
- If possible, connect the device to a Wi-Fi network.
- It is also helpful to have a way to access your email, Slack, and other messaging apps until they are once again available on your device.
- If you have questions, please contact the University IT Service Desk at 650-725-4357 (5-HELP) or submit a Help request.

- Start by navigating to any two-step authentication screen (for example, go to accounts.stanford.edu and select Manage.)
- In the lower left corner of the prompt screen, click Need help?
Under "I got a new phone," click Activate Duo Mobile.

Enroll your device in Intune
- Back up your device. Your cellular carrier typically provides a mechanism to back up your pictures, contacts, etc. Ensure this is done first to prevent any personal data loss.
- Next, go to the Play Store on your device
- Search for the Intune Company Portal app.
- Select Install.
- Open the Company Portal app and select Sign in.
Enter your email address: SUNetID@stanford.edu.
Under "How would you like to sign in" select Certificate on this device. You'll be taken through Stanford SSO.
Next, you will be taken through encryption and the creation of the Work profile.
Follow the prompts and once enrollment is complete, you'll notice the addition of Work profile apps - these have a tiny briefcase icon attached to them.
The Work Profile Play Store is your source for Stanford-managed apps - you'll go there to install the ones you need.
The Work Profile Outlook app should be automatically installed. Open Outlook and hit Add Account.
- You should see your email address at the top of the screen - Select Continue to complete your email configuration.
Note: If you are a Gmail user you can install that app from the Work Profile Play Store.
