What is a Google Groups mail list?

A Google Group email list is like a mailing list. It's comprised of the email addresses of its members but it also has its own email address.

View the groups you belong to

You can view all the Google Groups you belong to by navigating to groups.google.com and clicking My groups.

Edit membership settings

You can edit the frequency with which you receive updates from the group.

  1. To do so, go to groups.google.com and click the group you wish to edit.
  2. Click My membership settings.
  3. Click the dropdown menu under the Subscription and select one of the options explained below and select Save changes.
  • Each email—Messages sent individually as they're posted to the group.
  • Abridged—Up to 25 complete messages combined into single emails and sent daily.
  • Digest—Summaries of up to 150 messages combined into single emails and sent daily.
  • No email—Messages from the group are not sent.​

Leave a group

You can leave a group. to which you belong.

  1. To do so, go to groups.google.com and click the group you wish to leave.
  2. Click My membership settings.
  3. Click Leave Group at the top of the page.

Subscribe to a Google Group email list

You can search for Groups and ask to join.

  1. To do so, go to groups.google.com and enter the name of the Group in the search bar.
  2. Click the name of the group you wish to join.
  3. Click Ask to join group.
