Building Emergency Plan

• This BEP documents the minimum elements of emergency action for a facility, to include the formal building name and identification numbers, facility emergency access, and occupant business units and schools.
• This BEP identifies the building manager, the responsible DOCs, the Emergency Assembly Point (EAP), and facility leaders who keep the plan current.
• Additionally, this CardinalShield BEP workflow is designed to document only very basic information to meet OSHA emergency action plan requirements, which include:
  • Procedures for reporting a fire or other emergency 
  • Procedures for emergency evacuation
  • Procedures for employees who remain to operate critical plant operations
  • Procedures to account for all employees after evacuation
  • Building manager name and contact information

BEP Assumptions

• Respective DOC Coordinators are familiar with their school or business unit BEPs and participate in improvement processes.
• The building has identified members of a building safety committee that determines roles and responsibilities of safety leaders during an emergency.
• This plan is applied university-wide, yet there may be nuances identified by building leadership, the fire marshal, and/or utility providers that a building safety committee may consider as an addendum.
