Affiliate Directory Enhancements

Enhancements to the global address list (GAL) have made it easier for individuals affiliated with Stanford's university and healthcare sectors to connect with one another.

In 2022, as part of ACT Phase 1,  about 60,000 hospital accounts were added to the university GAL. This update allows university members to search for the domains of  @stanfordhealthcare.org and @stanfordchildrens.org, in addition to @stanford.edu, within the Microsoft 365 directory. Furthermore, individuals from the university were added to the hospital GALs. Stanford Health Care intakes all university email addresses that are GAL enabled, while Stanford Children’s Health only takes university email addresses from the School of Medicine; Land, Buildings & Real Estate; and University IT

With the appropriate individual privacy settings in place, anyone with a Stanford Medicine ID can be searched for in the university's Microsoft 365 email and calendar applications. If a person's email or identity is set to private in Stanford You, then they will not appear in either the university or hospital GALs. Individual attributes, like telephone and work address, will only appear when set to public.

An additional enhancement scheduled to be completed in 2026 will further improve the existing GAL sync by including manager information. This will enable for hospital workflows to leverage first approvals from a defined “manager," which can be an individual person or a group.
