As the number of business applications used at Stanford increases, keeping track of who has authority to access data and perform administrative tasks becomes more complex. So does the work of granting and revoking authority when employees change roles.
To add ease to these processes, the Authority Migration and Privilege Management Enhancements project seeks to enhance the usability of Authority Manager, the Stanford-developed tool used to grant employees access to the university's many administrative systems.
Working with stakeholders from across the university, the project team has created a plan to update and enhance the Authority Manager interface and add modern functionality. These changes will enable us to:
New functionality and views — along with a cleaner and more intuitive interface — make it easier for managers to grant, revoke, and edit authority. To get an overview of the new user interface, visit What's New in Authority Manager.
New functionality — plus type-ahead assistance — means tasks can be completed with fewer steps.
Replicate authority records from current or recently separated employees — instead of starting from scratch.
Send a request from within Authority Manager to copy, edit or revoke privileges for which you don't have authority.
A convenient new option to include a future start date when granting authority adds efficiency.
Locate grantors without the need to manually browse through information or run a report.
Refine and narrow information for more precise search results.
The new Authority Manager functionality went live on June 21, 2021. We’ve created online resources to guide you through the changes.
