How to Find a Google Shared Drive ID

When submitting a PTA to purchase additional space on Stanford Google Workspace, you 'll be asked to provide the ID of the Google Drive you want to expand. For a Stanford Google My Drive, the ID is automatically derived from the SUNet ID of the person who owns the Stanford Google Workspace account. No other ID is needed. For a shared drive, you can easily find the ID in the drive's URL.

Find a shared drive ID

  • If you are not a member of the shared drive, ask someone who is a member to provide the shared drive URL.
  • The web interface is required to find a shared drive ID. You cannot find the ID using the desktop app.

To get the ID of a specific Google shared drive, follow these steps:

  1. In a browser, log into your Stanford account and navigate to drive.google.com/drive/shared-drives.

  2. Select the shared drive for which you need to get the ID.
  3. The needed shared drive ID can be found in the URL as everything that comes after folders/, like this: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/{shared-drive-id}.
The image below shows what the shared drive ID would look like in your browser. In this case,  the shared drive ID is: 0ALkFKuSgYKhQUk9PVA.
