Say Hello to Zoom, Evolved
Beginning on Jan. 26, Stanford‑managed computers will update to Zoom Workplace 6.7. This update introduces a refreshed, more intuitive interface and consolidated controls for faster navigation and simpler meeting management—while keeping all core meeting features and functionality intact.
What to expect
Zoom Workplace 6.7 delivers a more consistent look and feel for meetings across the mobile and desktop Workplace apps, with improved navigation and fewer clicks.
Here are the highlights:
- Desktop app navigation: Cleaner layout with a left-side navigation for faster access to key tabs and a “More” menu that consolidates additional workspaces without crowding the main view.
- In‑meeting (desktop): The default toolbar shows only essential controls for a focused view. You can customize it on the fly by pinning/unpinning and dragging buttons to reorder your most-used tools. In addition, hosting tools are now grouped in one easy‑to‑find panel, simplifying meeting management.
- Important: After the update, all customizations to the desktop in-meeting toolbar will reset to default and cannot be transferred, saved, or restored. To recreate your layout, pin or unpin tools and drag to reorder them in your next meeting.
- In‑meeting (mobile): A streamlined interface with consolidated controls lets you quickly adjust settings and personalize your view while keeping familiar features.
Steps to safeguard your Zoom experience
You'll also see changes to a few AI Companion settings, which will help us protect sensitive data and work securely with our colleagues, including those at Stanford Medicine.
- Participant consent required: If a host enables AI Companion features, attendees will see a “Zoom AI Companion at Stanford University” consent prompt. To remain active in a meeting, participants must acknowledge the policy and agree to use AI tools responsibly, in accordance with Stanford policy.
- AI Companion smart assistant panel: This feature is disabled by default in the Zoom Workplace app. You may enable it and set your conversation history retention period. If enabled and no retention period is set, the default is 30 days.
- Meeting Summaries: Automatic sharing is disabled. Hosts need to manually share meeting summaries after the meeting. Automatic email notifications to participants will not include summary text unless you modify your settings.
- Refer to Safety and Security Best Practices for guidance on securing AI‑enabled meetings.
- Smart Recording with AI Companion: Options for recording highlights, summary & chapters, next steps, and meeting coach are disabled by default. Hosts may enable these options for individual meetings they host.
