IM Training Overview for DOC

DOC coordinators and team members will access a unique  DOC “room” in CardinalShield, which is behind SSO authentication.  The credentials of DOC coordinators have been entered into the VEOCI (vendor) database so you can sign in to your unique DOC room. This virtual room is the space where your DOC will:

  • Report an emergency or incident
  • Activate the DOC and develop an incident response roster and organization chart organization
  • Communicate with other DOCs and the EOC
  • Create, view, and track DOC tasks
  • Request resources from other DOCs and/or from the STAT or EOC
  • Create incident objectives and an incident action plan (IAP)
  • Submit a question to the EOC Policy Group

DOC room in Cardinal Shield

The DOC room allows you to see the incident map (based on the university base map) with updated incident information and provides a common operating picture on a standard map you share with other DOCs and the STAT/EOC. DOC coordinators can access situational awareness dashboards for real-time information on the weather, regional incidents, earthquakes, transportation/traffic, wildfires, smoke, and air quality, and power outages. Over time, you and your team can customize some room features. However, the current configuration is a good starting point, and you should work within the existing room while you and your team train on using CardinalShield.

DOC Coordinators can log in to CardinalShield to access the IM (Incident Management)  and MC (Mission Continuity) solutions. When you enter your SUNet ID, you will be directed to your unique CardinalShield DOC room through SSO. Submit a Help request if you have trouble logging into the platform.

Get familiar with CardinalShield IM

CardinalShield Incident Management (IM) is a robust platform that organizes incident information in dashboards and maps and creates and tracks incident activities in workflows, forms, and requests. The DOC can initiate actions, including activating a DOC roster and sign-in, assigning incident tasks, asking for resources, communicating with the STAT/EOC, communicating questions to the EOC Policy Group, and communicating directly with other DOCs and the STAT/EOC. Much of this is straightforward, and with practice, DOC teams can navigate the DOC room and optimize system use. OEM will provide training on incident management within CardinalShield. This training will be integrated with Stanford’s overall concept of operations for different types of emergencies.

Training will be rolled out and developed in these ways:

  • Response exercises: Tabletop and functional response exercises to practice DOC/STAT/EOC activation and incident workflows.
  • Hands-on training: Hands-on training sessions at DOC Coordinator meetings or DOC-specific training sessions. DOC Coordinator meeting agendas can focus on CardinalShield features and best practices.
  • Training library:  With accessible, step-by-step guides, the platform makes it easier to train teams, maintain readiness, and ensure a seamless response when emergencies arise.
