Animating Eye Candy with Adobe After Effects

New session times will be displayed below upon confirmation.

Effective immediately in response to COVID-19, most Technology Training classes will be delivered online until further notice.

In advance of each session, Tech Training will provide you with a Zoom link to your class, along with any required class materials.

This course will give you a brief history of the motion graphics industry, and an opportunity to create your own animations using the After Effects software. After taking this course you won't watch television and motion media the same way!

After Effects is the industry standard for digital post-production of film, video, and web production. You can composite layers in various ways, apply and combine sophisticated visual, audio, and animation effects.

In this course you will have the opportunity to learn the basic functions of After Effects software, such as the interface, importing files, and keyframing. We will also cover special effects including 2.5D animation, color correction, and chroma key compositing, to name a few.

After taking this course you won't watch television and motion media the same way. You will not only appreciate the motion graphics present in almost all visual media, but will know how the visual eye candy you see on a daily basis was created.

Prerequisites: Basic computing skills: copying/pasting, right-clicking (contextual menus), finding files, and access to the Internet.

Goal: To finish with a short animated reel of motion graphics animations, including a Full Screen Info-Graphic, Show Logo Open, Lower-Third animation, Over-The-Shoulder animation, and various special effects examples.

Objectives: To learn the basic fundamentals of designing motion graphics in Adobe After Effects software

Topics covered include:
Getting comfortable with the interface.

  • Creating a project and importing footage
  • Creating a composition with layers
  • Modifying an individual layer's properties
  • Creating shapes and setting keyframes

Creating Animations Using Shapes and Type

  • Animating type with keyframes and presets
  • Using motion blur in your composition
  • Working with layers imported from Illustrator & Photoshop
  • Apply animation effects to individual or multiple layers
  • Understanding rhythm in animation
  • Understanding vector graphics vs raster graphics

Animation Effects, Color Correction, & Sound Design

  • Animating 3D layers in 2.5D
  • Color correcting video
  • Adding sound design
  • Layer masking techniques
  • Chroma key video compositing
  • Adding lighting effects
  • Rending your work

Note:
As this is a live online class, you will need to have the Adobe After Effects software installed on your machine.

The Animating Eye Candy with After Effects course is an exciting class led by Emmy award winning graphic designer Tommie Lee Washington, who has been designing motion graphics at ESPN for over 27 years.
