This service provides access to Google NotebookLM. This doesn't include the paid Google AI Pro for Education add-on (also known as "Gemini for Workspace"), which integrates AI directly into apps like Gmail, Docs, or Sheets. That service is not currently licensed by Stanford
Google NotebookLM is a personal AI research and writing assistant available as part of the Stanford Google Workspace suite.
Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, NotebookLM is "grounded" in the specific documents you provide from your Google Drive or local device, such as research articles, lecture notes, or project proposals. It acts as a personalized expert on your source material, helping you synthesize information, understand complex topics, and generate new ideas.

Data security
As a generative AI service, NotebookLM requires the highest level of caution. Therefore, its use is restricted to protect university and personal information.
- This service is approved for Low Risk and Moderate Data ONLY.
- Gemini may not be used to transmit or store High Risk Data, as defined by the Information Security Office.
Do not input High Risk Data into NotebookLM prompts. Your prompts and conversations should contain only publicly available or non-sensitive information. This is a critical security requirement. Prohibited data includes, but is not limited to:
- Any confidential or proprietary university information Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
- Code or software intended for a patent application
- Any information you are not authorized to share publicly.
Treat all conversations with Gemini as public. Do not assume privacy for any information you provide.
- Always consider responsible AI best practices.

Free of charge
Please note: Currently paid versions and features cannot be purchased for use with a Stanford account due to Google's licensing policies. This includes advanced capabilities NotebookLM Plus and Gemini as well as Google AI Pro for Education, an add-on that integrates AI integration directly into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Our team is working with Google to find solutions in the future.
