Stanford AI Tools: October 2026 Platform Updates
ChatGPT Edu, Google Gemini Enterprise, and Claude for Education remain available to all Stanford faculty, students, postdocs, and staff. Here's what's new across these services in October.
Anthropic Claude for Education
Claude for Education bundles Claude Chat, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork for teaching, learning, research, and administrative work. Access requires a quick request form on the Claude for Education service page.
What's new
- Claude connectors for Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides are now available.
- Claude Science is now enabled. This desktop app supports scientific research and analysis, including work with data and code. See Anthropic's setup guide for supported operating systems and how to get started.
- Remote Control is now enabled. You can continue a local Claude Code session from your phone or a web browser while the computer running the session remains on. See Anthropic's guidance for how this feature works.
- The Morning Consult connector has been enabled. If you have access to Morning Consult Intelligence, you can use the connector to ask Claude questions about its consumer research data feeds. Find it on Stanford's available connectors page.
Reminder: migrate personal Claude accounts by December 31
If you signed up for a personal Claude account with your stanford.edu email, you need to migrate to a Stanford Claude for Education account before Dec. 31. Personal accounts tied to your stanford.edu email will stop working Jan. 1, 2027.
Here's what to do before Dec. 31:
- Request a Standard or Premium account on the Claude for Education service page. Standard is free for active faculty, staff, postdocs, and students; Premium has a fee and needs PTA approval.
- Use remaining personal Claude credits, as they won't transfer to your Stanford account.
- To keep chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, skills, or memory, migrate them using the guides on the UIT AI connectors page. Anything not migrated or archived by Dec. 31 becomes inaccessible. Migration instructions are on the Claude FAQ page under the item titled, "How do I migrate my personal Claude account to the new Stanford offering?"
