AI Playground: The Safer AI Platform for the Stanford Community
Did you know that, in addition to providing free access to multiple open-source AI tools, Stanford AI Playground offers the university community a safe and personalized environment for handling authorized low and moderate-risk data? That’s why the Information Security Office (ISO) strongly encourages community members to use the AI Playground as a reliable option for AI exploration.
For example, to use ChatGPT, instead of going to OpenAI's website, simply visit aiplayground.stanford.edu and choose ChatGPT – or one of the other available AI models.
Safety first
Unlike third-party AI tools, where Stanford cannot control how low and moderate-risk data is handled or stored, the AI Playground offers the safest environment for generative AI experimentation within the university.
Please note that University IT (UIT) is thoroughly reviewing the AI Playground’s security to eventually approve the platform for high-risk data. Outside of the AI Playground, the use of any AI model with moderate and high-risk data requires a Data Risk Assessment (DRA) and an additional thorough security review for enterprise-level use. More benefits to using the AI Playground
In addition to providing a more secure environment, the AI Playground is continually evolving to serve as the most robust AI tool for Stanford. Recent enhancements include:
- Admin Guide Search: Generates responses based on the Stanford Admin Guide.
- DoResearch Policy Guide: Allows for AI-assisted searching of Stanford's comprehensive collection of policies and guidelines related to university research activities.
- Faculty Handbook Search: Designed to find information related to Stanford University faculty policies and guidelines.
- And more.
