Class Description

Effective immediately in response to COVID-19, all Technology Training classes will be delivered online until further notice.

In advance of each session, Tech Training will provide you with a Zoom link to your class, along with any required class materials.

JavaScript was once used for simple button clicks. Now, with it being the base for everything from data analysis, web interfaces, and full stack applications, it's a great time to understand the basics in this one-day class.

This course will focus on the best practices that make JavaScript a useful language. With the basic syntax covered, we will work with the core language features that underlie all JavaScript projects and JavaScript frameworks. Through a combination of task-based instruction, visual examples, and labs, developers will isolate the JavaScript core types in the browser to see how the JavaScript language differs from Java or other Object Oriented languages.

Topics Covered:

  • JavaScript Primitives: Understanding the core types
  • Arrays & Objects: Learning how to identify and manipulate these important data types
  • The DOM: Making changes to DOM elements with JavaScript
  • Functions: Writing functions and using callback functions
  • Event Handlers: Responding to and triggering events with JavaScript
  • Debugging: Testing and debugging your code with a variety of development tools

University IT Technology Training classes are only available to Stanford University staff, faculty, students, and Stanford Hospitals & Clinics employees. A valid SUNet ID is needed in order to enroll in a class.
