- Program Description
Get hands-on with Power BI Desktop and real public datasets, and discover how Claude can speed up every stage of building a report. You'll start with a fast-paced run-through of the essentials, a refresher if you've used Power BI before, and a crash course if you haven't: importing and cleaning data in Power Query, connecting tables in a data model, writing DAX measures, and designing report pages, with Claude on hand to explain each step and write code from plain-English requests.
You'll then open Power BI project (PBIP) files in Claude Cowork, where Claude works directly in your project folder to add measures, fix problems, and apply a consistent design. Along the way, you'll practice a repeatable workflow for planning, building, checking, and documenting reports, including how to spot when Claude's output needs a second look.
This class requires Power BI Desktop and the Claude desktop app installed on your computer, plus a Claude account with Cowork access, such as Stanford's Claude for Education.
This class is for you if you:
- Work as a data, business, or financial analyst, or in a similar reporting role
- Build reports in Excel and want to move that work into Power BI
- Use Power BI already and want Claude to speed up cleanup, DAX, and documentation
- Maintain reports for your team and want a faster way to fix and update them
- Want to see how Claude fits into real, day-to-day analytics work- Learning Objectives
Objectives
Learners will have the opportunity to:
1. Import, clean, and shape data in Power Query with Claude writing M language and explaining each step
2. Build a data model with table relationships and a date table
3. Write Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) measures by describing what you want in plain English, then check the results
4. Design clear report pages and apply a custom theme created with Claude
5. Use Claude Cowork to edit Power BI project (PBIP) files directly
6. Troubleshoot and document a report with Claude's help- Topic Outline
