Application of VR and Metaverse Technology in Education for Healthcare Professionals

Before each sesson, Tech Training will provide a Zoom link for live online classes, along with any required class materials.

 


This workshop will cover the application of VR/AR and the Metaverse in medical education to improve the quality of education and surgical practice. It will include hands-on practice with VR equipment to experience immersion in VR in the medical field.

Topics in the seminar include: 

  • Introducing current digital technologies integrated with healthcare
  • Application of AI and VR in medical education and on-the-job training
  • Application of AI and VR in surgery planning (e.g. Maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, laparoscopic surgeries)
  • Impact of virtual reality-integrated surgeries on patient's QOL.
  • Future directions in VR research and Metaverse application for transferring skills from the operating room
  • Q & A session

There will be a hands-on workshop where participants will use Meta Quest sets and specialized software to experience immersion in virtual reality in the medical field, giving them the opportunity to understand the value of accuracy and enhanced learning using the technology.

 

Presenter Information

Dr. Daisuke Tomita graduated from Showa University's, School of Dentistry in Tokyo, Japan, and holds a D.D.S. in Occlusal and Functional Orthodontics from Tokyo Medical and Dental University's Graduate School. His publications in orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery discuss utilizing digital innovations such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence and state-of-the-art Japanese technology to enhance the caliber and accessibility of medical care.

Dr. Mohamed Abdelhakim is a graduate of Cairo University in Egypt and holds a Ph.D. from Nippon Medical School Hospital in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery. He has conducted several workshops and trainings on using virtual reality in medicine to enhance medical practice and education.

Dr. Daisuke Tomita
