New AI Tools Arrive in Stanford Slack

Use the power of AI to instantly summarize chat threads or capture huddle meeting notes automatically — all without leaving Slack

Ready to reclaim your time? Two new AI-powered features are available in Stanford Slack to help you work more efficiently and focus on what matters most.

Read on to learn about “huddle notes” and “conversation summaries,” then visit our Slack AI guide page for more details.

Feeling overwhelmed by lengthy chat threads? Leverage Slack AI to generate an instant overview of any channel, direct message (DM), or thread. You can choose to summarize all of your messages within any time frame you select, or just the ones you haven’t read.

  • A summary identifying key points appears in a separate right-side panel or pop-up window.
  • If you need more context, click the “More Details” arrow to jump to the original message.
  • Summaries are designed to disappear after you navigate away or close the results.

Enhance your meetings with AI huddle notes and transcription

Tired of taking notes during meetings? Now you can stay fully engaged in the discussions while AI-assisted note-taking captures the details. Your audio and messages from the huddle will be used to create the notes — including a list of attendees, key takeaways, and a full meeting transcript.

  • AI note-taking is turned off by default. Anyone in the huddle can turn it on or off, or delete the notes and transcript at any time during the call, unless a workspace admin has restricted this ability.
  • Once activated, everyone in the huddle will see a message on what to expect and can choose to continue or leave.
  • A banner remains visible for the duration of the meeting indicating the feature is active, and audio cues let you know when note-taking is turned off or the notes and transcript are deleted.
  • After the huddle, the summary notes are saved as a Canvas in the channel or DM, allowing anyone in the channel or DM to view them. Permissions to share or access are the same as for any Slack Canvas.

Stay in your flow

Slack AI works to bring clarity to the insights within chats, threads, and meetings. With AI-driven tools seamlessly integrated right into the platform where you’re already working, you can avoid the distraction of switching between apps.

What about security?

People using the AI features can only access data they already have permission to view. To protect your privacy, all data remains within the Slack infrastructure and is never used to train any AI models. This keeps the experience secure and familiar for everyone in our Stanford Slack community.

To learn more about using Slack AI responsibly, review the Slack AI security and privacy information on the guide page.
