There’s no need to take immediate action, but we’re sharing exciting news about what’s coming soon.
In the coming months, MySQL Database Hosting Service will move to the cloud. The new platform will level up your user experience with improved performance, reliability, and enhanced security.
This transition to the cloud is part of University IT’s Cloud Transformation Program, which focuses on adopting cloud technology solutions that are more scalable, cost-efficient, and resilient than current on-premise solutions.
What does this mean for you?
When the new MySQL platform becomes available later this year, faculty and staff can request, view, and manage database accounts via a new URL. Users will experience all the features and functionality of the current platform, plus more.
If you use MySQL database hosting service already, you will still have access to the legacy on-premise platform as you do today. However, you will need to migrate to the new MySQL cloud platform, as the legacy MySQL console will be decommissioned in fall 2024.
What’s next?
There is no action to take now. We will inform you when the new MySQL platform is ready and provide instructions to help you migrate your data. Meanwhile, you can preview the improved experience at Coming Soon: MySQL Database Hosting in the Cloud. Stay tuned to the MySQL service page for updates as we enhance your MySQL hosting experience.
