We are transitioning to Microsoft Intune for Android devices to streamline our endpoint management and leverage our existing licensing.
What you need to know
In the coming weeks, Microsoft Intune will replace Workspace ONE as the go-to mobile device management (MDM) service for Stanford-managed Android devices. While your experience will remain the same, this change will provide enhanced flexibility and offer smoother integration with existing systems.
- New Android devices: Once we switch over, any new Android device should be enrolled in Intune for MDM service.
- Current devices: If you’re using a Stanford-managed Android device that’s enrolled in Workspace ONE, you’ll need to migrate to Intune to stay compliant.
Next steps
We’re working on developing step-by-step instructions. If you have one or more devices enrolled in Workspace ONE, watch for an email with all the details you need to make the switch. You’ll also find instructions on the MDM service home page (mdm.stanford.edu) as soon as they’re ready.
Reminder about personal mobile devices
Stanford policy requires students, faculty, staff, and contractors who are employed by Stanford to enroll their personal device in MDM if it is used for work activities. This ensures specific security settings are enabled to protect your data and the university’s information. Work activities include checking email, submitting a timecard in Axess, catching up on messages in Slack or Teams, or accessing documents in Stanford Google Drive.
