New Resources for Using AI Code Assistants With AI API Gateway

Stanford’s AI API Gateway supports the use of modern AI coding assistants and agents. These powerful tools can be used to support modern application development, research engineering needs, and infrastructure-focused tasks.

University IT (UIT) also now provides documentation and guides to support connecting with popular tools like Cline and Roo Code directly to the AI API Gateway using a standard OpenAI-compatible configuration with the new Using AI Code Assistants with the AI API Gateway page.

With the newly-released documentation, you'll discover in detail how assistants like Cline and Roo Code can be integrated with your local Git workflows, including Stanford's GitLab, allowing you to:

  • Model full-stack applications
  • Analyze and enhance existing codebases
  • Generate tests and documentation

By using the AI API Gateway with the provided guidance, developers, researchers, and other technical teams can accelerate your workflows and capabilities with cutting-edge AI tools.

New documentation to guide your implementation

The new collection of documentation for using AI code assistants with the AI API Gateway is built to help our community better maximize the potential of the AI API Gateway. The available guides are designed to provide technical teams with the knowledge needed to set up, use, and govern these tools effectively and responsibly.

The new documentation suite covers several key areas:

  • Setup and configuration: Step-by-step instructions for installing the Cline and Roo Code extensions in VS Code and connecting them to the AI API Gateway.
  • Practical use cases: Real-world examples demonstrating how to use the assistants for tasks such as creating a new full-stack application, migrating a database schema, and identifying UI/UX issues in an existing project.
  • GitLab integration: A detailed guide on connecting your local projects to GitLab and using the AI assistants to manage version control operations.
  • Best practices: New best practices guides establish clear standards for engineering quality, security and governance, cost/resource management, and structured workflows.

Explore the new guidance and begin integrating AI-assisted development into your work with the Using AI Code Assistants with the AI API Gateway page. This collection of documentation is planned to continue to evolve and grow, to meet the needs of our community.
