Google Drive Security Update May Change File Sharing Access

On Sept. 13, 2021, Google will apply a security update to make file-sharing links more secure. If your files are affected by this change you'll receive an email notification from Google and see an alert in My Drive

This update will change the links used for accessing some files in individual Google Drive and Google Shared drives. It does not impact Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. Other file types such as PDFs, Docx, videos, or images that were external files uploaded to Google Drive may be impacted.

After Sept. 13, anyone who has previously viewed the files or who has direct access to the files should be able to continue accessing them. However, others who haven’t yet viewed the files may need to request access.

For more about the upcoming change, view this Google workspace update.
