Cardinal Cable TV Service to Retire in July 2023

We have been delighted to provide our cable TV service to our Stanford community for the past 25 years. However, after extensive review, University IT (UIT) has decided to retire the Cardinal Cable TV service. We'll continue to communicate with existing subscribers as we work to transition everyone off our service before it's retired on July 31, 2023.

Why is this changing?

The television industry is evolving. The use of “traditional” cable TV is decreasing as people move toward streaming services that provide a variety of choices and can be used on a variety of devices.

What to expect

As we phase out Cardinal Cable TV, we have been reaching out to our clients to inform them of this change and encourage them to start moving to alternative options, such as live TV streaming services, ahead of the July 31, 2023 deadline. It’s important to note that this service change will not impact high-speed internet or telephony services. Stay tuned to the Cardinal Cable TV page, as we will share more information in the coming weeks.
