Program Description

Claude access will be provided for workshop activities.

If you have heard about Claude but are not sure what it can actually do for you, this course answers that question in the most practical way possible: by doing things. Each of the seven modules focuses on a specific, high-value capability -- from conducting deep research and analyzing documents to brainstorming with Extended Thinking and generating visual summaries of complex information. Whether you use Claude for work, learning, or personal projects, you will leave with a clear picture of what it can do and how to make it work for you.

Learning Objectives

Learners will have the opportunity to:
1. Navigate Claude's interface and explore its core features, including model options and Artifacts
2. Craft effective prompts and refine them through follow-up to get better, more targeted results
3. Use Web Search and Deep Research tools to gather real-time information with citations
4. Activate Extended Thinking to brainstorm, expand ideas, and work through complex questions
5. Upload and analyze documents including PDFs and Word files to extract key insights
6. Request charts, tables, and diagrams to visualize information and support communication
7. Set up and use Claude Projects to establish persistent context, custom instructions, and a personal knowledge base
8. Apply Claude to real-world workflows including writing, planning, researching, and organizing

Topic Outline

- What sets Claude apart from ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI assistants
- Key interface features: model selection, conversations, and Artifacts
- Core prompting principles: clarity, context, constraints, and examples
- Turning vague requests into targeted results through follow-up and refinement

2. Research Anything with Web Search and Deep Research
- Pulling real-time information with citations directly inside a conversation
- How Deep Research goes further ¿ multi-source, comprehensive exploration
- Evaluating sources, knowing when to verify, and choosing the right research mode for the task

3. Think Bigger with Extended Thinking
- What Extended Thinking actually does and how it differs from a longer reply
- Using it to brainstorm, work through complex problems, and pressure-test ideas
- Knowing when to turn it on and when standard mode is enough

4. Analyze Documents Without the Headache
- Uploading PDFs, Word docs, and spreadsheets for summarization and extraction
- Pulling out key insights, action items, and structured data from long documents
- Having a conversation with your documents ¿ asking follow-up questions against uploaded content

5. Visualize Information and Create Rich Outputs
- Requesting charts, tables, diagrams, and visual summaries
- Understanding Artifacts -- interactive, reusable outputs you can build on
- Using Skills to generate polished files: presentations, spreadsheets, Word documents, and more
