macOS at Stanford
University IT provides resources that help you configure your macOS applications for use in the Stanford computing environment. Before downloading your preferred version of macOS, review the Browser Recommendations webpage for versions of macOS.
Before upgrading your macOS device, we recommend that you complete a few system checks to help ensure that the operating system (OS) upgrade goes smoothly.
- Review the Service and Software Sunset Schedule page to keep up-to-date on which macOS versions are currently supported.
- Explore Apple's Mac documentation for technical specifications, user guides, and additional device information.
- Verify application compatibility below and on the Roaring Apps website.
Baseline configurations and compliance are supported on macOS Tahoe. Units that rely on additional configurations should test before upgrading.
UIT is actively validating application compatibility. See the table below for in-progress results.

Private Wi-Fi address feature may be incompatible with specific Wi-Fi networks, such as "Stanford" and "eduroam"
- For Apple devices enrolled in Jamf, this setting is turned off.
- To manually manage this setting on macOS, follow these instructions.
