What do I need to create a SUNet ID?

If you are a new employee or student at Stanford, you'll need your University ID to create a SUNet ID.

Where can I find my University ID?

The University ID can be located in one of four locations:

  • Faculty and staff will receive their University ID from the Welcome Center or their local HR representative when hired. It can also be found on the employee ID card.
  • For admitted students, the University ID can be found on the admit letter.

If you are a full-time faculty member, staff member, or student but are unable to determine your university ID, please contact the University IT Service Desk at 650-725-4357 (5-HELP), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., or submit a Help request.

To sponsor an account or manage your sponsorships, please visit Sponsorship Manager.

What is the “Check Account Status” tile, and how does it differ from the previous Status Checker?

The “Status Checker” has been renamed to “Check Account Status” and is now conveniently located on the new dashboard as a tile option, in addition to the “Check Account Status” button in the “Create SUNet ID” menu.

Where did the legacy autoreply feature go?

The legacy autoreply feature was retired as part of the May 2025 upgrade. The “Manage Autoreply”  tile will now direct you to your vacation/out-of-office settings in your Stanford email accounts.
