Slack's Data Privacy
Slack uses traditional, non-generative machine learning models for public channel recommendations, emoji suggestions, and search ranking. Late last week, a viral post erroneously suggested that Slack trains its separate add-on AI service with customer data.
This AI service, called Slack AI, uses third-party large language models, or LLMs. To be clear, Slack stated in a May 17 blog that no customer data is used to train these LLM models.
Slack has updated its privacy principles to outline how it protects customer data while integrating machine learning and generative AI experiences. These models are not built or trained in such a way that they could reproduce customer data.
For additional details, read Slack’s blog explaining how it protects your data, and learn how Slack AI was built with security and privacy in mind.
