How to join

On GitHub, teams collaborate by using an “organization,” which is a shared account. Stanford Developers is the default Cardinal Cloud GitHub organization open to anyone who can authenticate using Stanford credentials. Stanford Medicine organizations are exclusively for individuals affiliated with Stanford Medicine.

To get started, you’ll need a GitHub account linked to your Stanford email address [SUNetID@stanford.edu]. You can connect an existing account or create a new one at github.com

Security and storage guidelines

Cardinal Cloud GitHub offers substantial storage for Low- or Moderate-risk data. When storing files, data, and code for a repository, it's important to consider practical and financial aspects. For example, staying within the available storage limits helps avoid unexpected costs.

GitLab vs. GitHub

Stanford’s GitLab is the recommended code repository service, offering advanced DevOps and complete application lifecycle management. GitHub is best for community collaboration and extensive third-party integrations, especially in open-source or smaller team environments. Compare the services and choose which service is best for your work.
