AT&T Ending Email-to-Text and Text-to-Email
Do you ever use the email-to-text or text-to-email feature with your mobile device?
If you’re an AT&T customer—or if your collaborators are—it’s time to plan for another method.
Starting June 17, 2025, AT&T customers won’t be able to use email to send or receive texts. (And those who have AT&T Wireless won’t be able to use email to send you a text or use text to send you an email.)
Who should discontinue email-to-text/text-to-email?
Please take steps now to discontinue use of email-to-text/text-to-email, if you (or your school/unit members):
- Have AT&T as a mobile service or wireless provider
- Use or rely on email-to-text or text-to-email
Note: This is especially important if email-to-text/text-to-email is part of your critical work processes, such as emergency notifications or business workflows.
Discontinuing use may require you to set up workarounds or alternative methods. For work-related help or consultation, please submit a Help request.
What if I’m not an AT&T customer?
While AT&T is one of the first carriers to give a sunset date, many carriers are trending in this direction—including Verizon and T-Mobile. Primary reasons for this discontinuation include lack of reliability and security.
This means anyone who currently uses or depends on an email-to-text/text-to-email feature should take steps to reduce this reliance, even if you’re not an AT&T customer.
