Wireless Chargers and Stanford ID Cards: Keep Them Apart!

Tuesday, January 22, 2019

Do you carry your Stanford ID card in a card holder on your cell phone case? If so, make sure you remove the card from the holder before using a wireless cell phone charger.

The heat generated from the wireless charger breaks the antenna inside the card, and you will no longer be able to use the damaged card with card reading devices.

What to do with a damaged card?

If you have a damaged card, the ID Card Office will replace it for a $25 fee. Bring your card to the ID Card Office at Tresidder Union, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m.

Visit the ID Card Office website for more information.
