This fall, the University Privacy Office (UPO) and Information Security Office (ISO) commenced Stanford’s Data Protection Champions Program. The goal of the program is to build an efficient communications pathway between the UPO, ISO, and the schools and units, and empower our community to protect all personal data.
Who are Data Protection Champions?
Data Protection Champions (DPCs) are local leaders committed to promoting privacy and IT security best practices within their schools and units. DPCs play an essential role in fostering trust, communication, accountability, and awareness across Stanford. As local liaisons supporting data protection, DPCs:
- Raise awareness around data protection through local initiatives
- Provide or facilitate prompt responses to privacy and security questions, concerns, and issues
- Support the data risk assessment (DRA) process, improving response times
- Facilitate communication with the University Privacy Office and Information Security Office
- Promote community-building and knowledge-sharing on critical privacy topics
Engaging your champions
In most schools and units, at least one DPC will be your resource for data privacy and security-related concerns or questions. To find your locally designated DPC and learn more about the program, visit dataprivacy.stanford.edu.
