ServiceNow Reporting Moves to a Modern Data Lakehouse Architecture

University IT (UIT) is modernizing the data platform that supports ServiceNow reporting at Stanford. The ServiceNow Data Lakehouse is now live and provides a modern foundation for reporting and analytics as the current environment is phased out.

Who is impacted?

This update applies only to ServiceNow reporting currently delivered through the ServiceNow Incorta tenant (including related Incorta/Tableau dashboards built on that tenant's ServiceNow data). Other enterprise reporting services, including Oracle Financials reporting, are not part of this transition. Those who are currently using the ServiceNow Incorta tenant have been notified and are actively transitioning to the new environment.

Why the transition?

The move to a Lakehouse architecture is part of a broader effort to implement modern cloud data solutions that are sustainable, scalable, and designed to meet the university's growing data needs.

For units and departments that rely on ServiceNow data for their operations, moving ServiceNow data into a centralized lakehouse has several key advantages:

  • Enhanced performance and scalability: Modern cloud architecture to support growing data volumes and faster analysis.
  • Better integration capabilities across systems: Pipelines and APIs to move data reliably between cloud and on‑prem systems.
  • Advanced analytics and reporting features: Standardized, consolidated data to support consistent reporting and deeper analysis (including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) use cases).
  • Cost efficiency and optimized resources: A centrally supported platform that reduces duplicate efforts and improves operational efficiency.
  • Long-term support and sustainability: Secure, managed data environment designed to remain supported and adaptable as needs evolve.

Retirement of ServiceNow Incorta

As part of this modernization, ServiceNow Incorta will retire on June 30, 2026. The ServiceNow Data Lakehouse and the ServiceNow Incorta tenant will operate in parallel until that date.
