How can I make the most of Zoom?

Thursday, November 16, 2017

If you are like most Zoom users at Stanford, you use the tool for its basic purpose: video conferencing. You simply join the meeting, collaborate with your colleagues, then get on your way.

While there is nothing wrong with this approach, we wanted to share a few lesser-known features that can make your Zoom experience even better.

Three Zoom features to take advantage of:

Zoom on the Go

While the optimal Zoom experience is to sit in a well-equipped room complete with a large screen display, sound system and more, the reality is that work happens everywhere, even on the go. With the Zoom app, you can participate in Zoom meetings from anywhere using your smartphone or tablet.

Read instructions for getting started with iOS, or getting started with Android.

Breakout room

Breakout rooms can be used with large groups, when groups need to split off and work in smaller clusters. Breakout rooms allow you to split your Zoom meeting in up to 50 separate sessions. The meeting host can choose to split the participants of the meeting into these separate sessions automatically or manually, and can switch between sessions at any time.

Touch Up My Appearance

Everyone has days when they are a little worse for the wear. Whether it’s dark circles from a poor night’s sleep or an unsightly blemish, Zoom can help!

The Touch Up My Appearance option retouches your video display with a soft focus. This can help smooth out the skin tone on your face to present a more polished looking appearance when you display your video to others.

Follow these instructions to turn on the Touch Up My Appearance feature.
