Research Computing Elm Storage

Elm is an innovative tape-based object store project designed at the Stanford Research Computing (SRC) to address the large data archiving needs of the Stanford research community. Architected and administered by Stanford Research Computing, Elm provides affordable and scalable storage facilitated through the S3 API.

Guidance

Use this option when you … 

  • Are a researcher and want to archive research data for future reference, such as field studies, simulations, and image data
  • Want to preserve research data to meet institutional, regulatory, or policy compliance requirements.

Example Use Cases

  • Preserving raw research data that has already been analyzed and processed
  • Migrating research data that was previously stored on Stanford Google Drive
