Continue to maintain and enhance the Stanford network as “best-in-class” for research universities worldwide. Provide reliable, secure, and high capacity networking to support Stanford University’s research, academic, administrative, and student residence network needs.
Strategic initiatives include:
- Improve network security by using next generation firewall filters on core network firewalls as well as tools to block dynamic threats at the edge of the network
- Stay ahead of bandwidth demands by upgrading core network interconnectivity to 40 and 100 gigabit Ethernet, upgrading external circuits to the California Research and Education Network (CalREN) high-performance research (HPR) and Digital California (DC) networks, as well as other Internet network providers
- Enhance and expand the Stanford Research Network, providing 1.0 gigabit Ethernet ports directly to researchers with 100 gigabit Ethernet core connectivity to CENIC’s Pacific Research Network
- Increase density and capacity of Wi-FI access point deployments in areas that require it (student dorm rooms, auditoriums, large lecture halls, etc)
- Increase Wi-Fi coverage and capacity for outdoor areas around campus
- Prepare wireless infrastructure for cellular calls over Wi-FI including upgrading the WI-FI monitoring systems to provide better real time traffic analysis tools
