Stanford Email Gets a Refresh With Office 365

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

University IT is continuing to make progress toward moving Stanford's email and calendar system to Office 365 during the summer of 2015. Office 365 is Microsoft's cloud offering that will increase the email quota for individual users at Stanford to 50 GB.

Over the past month, we've migrated more than 600 staff in University IT and partner groups in distributed IT. They’ve had their email, calendar, tasks, and contact information moved to Office 365 and have been using the new service as their primary email and calendar tool. While these pilots haven't been flawless, they have been immensely helpful in refining the process, creating needed documentation, planning support services, and identifying concerns. All of that will help make the transition that much smoother for the rest of campus transitioning to Office 365 in the coming months.

The rest of you will make the change during July and August during one of five scheduled rollouts: July 13, July 20, July 27, Aug. 3, and Aug. 10.

Graduate students are scheduled on July 13, and we are working with our IT partners across the campus and the CIO Council to determine which groups will be part of the subsequent rollouts. We expect to move entire schools and departments together as best we can. You'll be hearing more about the schedule as we move closer to the change.

In the meantime, go to the University IT website for additional news and updates and information on some things you can do to prepare.
