Mobile Device Management (MDM) Requires Upgrade to AirWatch
This past year, University IT worked with its partners across the University, hospitals and SLAC to select a new platform for its Mobile Device Management (MDM) service. MDM protects your personal information and Stanford’s data that is stored on or accessed from a mobile device. This new platform, called AirWatch, works for both Apple iOS and Android devices. Since University IT introduced AirWatch to the campus last April, thousands of employees and students have upgraded their iOS mobile devices from the “legacy” service to the new service and/or have added their Android devices.
University IT is focused on encouraging any users with iOS mobile devices still using the legacy MDM service to upgrade those devices to AirWatch. Email messages were sent to all the legacy MDM enrollees, offering them a quick way to migrate to AirWatch directly from the email message when viewed on their mobile device. Alternatively, they can launch a browser on the device, go to mdm.stanford.edu, and select the device to upgrade to AirWatch. Upgrade clinics (with no appointment required) are also being offered:
- Thursday, November 6: 11am-1pm at Encina Hall, Cuthbertson Conference Room 129
- Monday, November 10: 11am-1pm at Tresidder, 2nd Floor, Sequoia Room
The deadline to migrate to AirWatch is November 15, 2014. Devices not upgraded to AirWatch will no longer be supported by our MDM program and should not be used to access Stanford systems. The iOS device owner can re-enroll at any time by opening a browser on the device and starting at mdm.stanford.edu. University IT is asking that schools and departments ensure that the mobile devices used by their faculty, staff and students are protected with AirWatch MDM.
