Microsoft 365 Apps and Services to Discontinue Support of Internet Explorer 11

Thursday, August 12, 2021

Beginning Aug. 17, Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE11). Users will experience limited functionality and failure to access web applications and portals when using IE11.

Why the change?

Microsoft is migrating away from Internet Explorer and moving toward a faster, more secure and modern web browser, Microsoft Edge.

In addition to greater speed and security, Microsoft Edge also offers an Internet Explorer mode, or “IE mode,” built-in so you can continue to use the apps and sites you use today in IE11. IE mode makes it easy to use all of the sites you need in a single browser. Learn more about IE mode

What do I need to do?

To prepare for the Aug. 17 transition, we recommend switching over to Microsoft Edge now. If you need help getting started, check out Microsoft Edge help and learning page

Although IE11 support will end on Aug. 17 for Microsoft 365 apps and services, the final retirement date is June 15, 2022. At that time, the application will be out of support and disabled, automatically redirecting you to Microsoft Edge. To avoid security concerns, we recommend not waiting for that date to make the switch.
