Email Quota Increased

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

In early August, Stanford community members may have noticed that their email appeared to be taking up a smaller percentage of their overall available email storage space. This was the result of an increase in email quota for all users of Stanford Email and Calendar.

As email attachments and content increase in size, and storage technology becomes less expensive, people expect more space for storage of email. In response, our Authentication & Collaboration Solutions and our Storage teams partnered to figure out how to offer more quota at no cost to users. The resulting increases in quota (65% or more) were implemented on August 7th and 8th, 2014, as follows:

Faculty and academic staff: from 5 GB to 20 GB
Staff: from 3 GB to 5 GB
Students: from 3 GB to 5 GB
Affiliates (including sponsored accounts): from 1 GB to 3 GB

Coming soon, look for a project that will offer a cloud email service.
