The installers for most of the desktop software distributed by UIT resides in AFS in the \\afs\ir.stanford.edu\dept\its\WWW\support\<service> directory.
There are a number of ways to transfer/upload files to AFS: Fetch (Mac), SecureFX (Windows), WebAFS (web), Unix commands, or OpenAFS. This page describes how to transfer files to the ...dept\its\WWW\support directory using Fetch.
Before you begin
- Save the file you plan to release on ESS to your desktop.
Transfer a file to AFS using Fetch
- Launch Fetch.
- In the New Connection window, enter the following information and then click Connect:
- Hostname: cardinal.stanford.edu
- Username: your SUNet ID
- Connect using: SFTP
- Password: your SUNet ID password
- Add to keychain: unchecked
- Enter a passcode or number corresponding to the option you'll use for two-step authentication.
- Your AFS home directory displays. Click Path in the toolbar and select ir.stanford.edu.
- Drill down to ir.stanford.edu/dept/its/WWW/support and locate the folder (service name) in .../dept/its/WWW/support where you want to transfer the file.
- Drag and drop or move the file from its original location to the .../dept/its/WWW/support/<service> folder.
- Check that there is not already a file with the same name in the folder. If there is, temporarily rename the older file. It's good practice not to delete an older file until you are sure that transferring the new file was successful.
- If transferring files from another AFS directory it's a good practice to copy the file instead of moving it (via dragging and dropping). Often files in another AFS directory belong to someone else and it's good practice not to delete their files.
