Earn a $2,500 bonus through University IT’s Employee Referral Program

We bet your friends are pretty great, too.

Looking for a way you can help out a friend who’s looking for a job and also earn a little extra cash for yourself?
Participate in the University IT Employee Referral Program and earn a cash bonus ($2,500) if your referral candidate is hired!

Am I eligible to refer new employees?

The University IT Employee Referral Program is open to all regularly employed Stanford staff. Students, temporary / casual employees, and HR staff are not eligible to participate.

Can I refer an applicant from a current search I’m leading or in which I am involved?

We certainly hope you will share qualified applicants from your search with other hiring managers.  However, the referral bonus is intended only for the referral of candidates who are personally known by the employee and not in recognition of candidates the employee has come to know only through a search process.

Who can I refer?

The candidates you refer must be external to the university. Current Stanford employees, students, temporary/casual employees and employees working on campus or being recruited through an agency are not eligible through this program. If referring a previous Stanford employee, they must be at least three years from their last working day to be considered eligible.

Which positions are eligible?

You may refer an applicant for any open continuing position in University IT. University IT is part of the Business Affairs unit. The referral form and candidate resume needs to be submitted while the position is open.  Referral submissions will not be accepted after a referral candidate has received an offer of employment or if a position has been placed on hold.

How do I refer an external applicant?

  1. You must complete the referral form and attach a copy of the candidate’s resume. You will receive an email confirmation that your referral form was submitted. In the event an applicant is referred from more than one source, the deciding factor will be the date of receipt for the first submission by the University IT HR office.
  2. The applicant must apply online on the Stanford jobs website to be considered by the hiring manager.

How do I get the referral bonus?

University IT will pay you a referral bonus, subject to taxes, if the person you referred is hired.  The referral bonus is $2,500.  You will receive $1,500 in bonus pay when the new employee starts work and the other $1,000 when the employee reaches six months in the new position. In order to receive your referral bonus, you must be an employee of Stanford University at the time of payment.

Whom do I contact if I have additional questions?

University IT may modify or discontinue this program at any time. Should this program be discontinued, any in-process referrals will be handled on an individual basis.
