Campus-Wide Collaboration Made Easy With Stanford Profiles
If you work in the School of Medicine, School of Engineering, School of Humanities & Sciences, or School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences, chances are you’ve heard of — and probably used — Stanford Profiles, Stanford’s virtual workspace that facilitates communication and supports collaboration.
Now, thanks to recent updates, everyone else on campus can use this resource, too.
This year, Stanford Profiles, which used to be limited to the schools mentioned above, became available for use by the entire Stanford community of faculty, staff, post docs, graduate students, undergrad students, unpaid affiliates, and temporary and casual staff – anyone with a StanfordWho profile.
About Stanford Profiles
Stanford Profiles expands the CAP (Community Academic Profiles) website, which was developed by the School of Medicine (SoM) in 2004. The original intent of CAP was to support collaboration among SoM faculty, staff, graduate students, and post docs.
Similar to LinkedIn, Stanford Profiles combines academic and professional information with a profile directory of contact information that enables you to work closely with colleagues and track the projects that matter most to you.
Key features:
- All basic contact information is included in your profile by default. This data is generated from StanfordYou, Axess, and other campus systems.
- Enhance your profile by adding a photo or entering your presentations, websites, patents, honors and awards, certifications, and more. Any publications you may have are automatically imported.
- Search for people by name, topic, phone number, SUNet IT or email address. Enhance this basic search by entering keywords into your profile so you can be searched and found based on your interests, professional experiences, affiliations, and more.
- Search for a department or organization by name and browse a list of people affiliated with that organization.
- Indicate if you are willing to serve as a mentor, so prospective mentees can search and find you — and vice versa. Currently this feature is only available to select disciplines; more disciplines will be added in the future.
- Two views of Stanford Profiles are available: an external view for people outside of Stanford (you can adjust your preferences to control what information is available externally), and an internal view which is secured and available only to those with a SUNet ID.
- The design of the internal site was updated in May to better align with the look and feel of the external site, contributing to a better overall user experience.
